Our Impacts
FOLUR Ethiopia is transforming coffee landscapes by promoting sustainable land use, restoring degraded ecosystems, and enhancing sustainable livelihoods across Ethiopia’s major coffee-producing regions.
Working in 4 regions and 22 woredas (districts), the project supports communities, government institutions, cooperatives, and private sector actors to build deforestation-free and climate-resilient coffee value chains.
Through integrated landscape management, participatory forest management, sustainable intensification, and community-based restoration efforts, FOLUR Ethiopia is helping to:
- Enhance local capacities for integrated land-use planning and environmental governance.
- Reduce pressure on natural forests and biodiversity-rich ecosystems.
- Restore degraded coffee landscapes and forest areas.
- Strengthen sustainable coffee production and value chains.
- Improve the livelihoods and resilience of smallholder farming households.
- Empower women and youth through income diversification business activities.
By connecting conservation, restoration, and sustainable production, FOLUR Ethiopia is contributing to a future where forests thrive, coffee production remains competitive, and rural communities prosper.
Key Achievements (as of June 2026):
65,964 ha of cropland brought under sustainable land use practices
3,863 ha of old coffee farms rejuvenated
20 woredas developed and adopted integrated land use plans
17,403 ha of natural forests protected through PFM
24,497 households adopted fuel-efficient cookstoves
2,276 ha of degraded forests brought under restoration.
7.1 million indigenous and fruit tree seedlings planted to support restoration and agroforestry integration
37,785 women empowered through diversified livelihood opportunities
94,399 tons of CO2-equivalent emissions avoided
227,491 beneficiaries reached, with 57% women
