Ethiopia is home to some of Africa's most biodiverse Afromontane forests, diverse savanna woodlands, and tree-based agroforestry systems. These forest ecosystems provide essential environmental and economic services: they regulate water cycles, protect soils from erosion, sequester carbon, harbour exceptional biodiversity including the wild relatives of Arabica coffee, and sustain the livelihoods of millions of rural households through timber, fuelwood, non-timber forest products, and shade-grown agriculture.
